About our lead carpenter, Marcus O’Brien

“I want to take the time to build something meaningful … something that will stand for generations to come.”

Marcus’ interest and exposure to designing, building and woodworking started as a child in his grandfather’s basement shop.

“My grandfather not only taught me patience and understanding, but also how to read the movement of wood. For me, it’s important to put that kind of thought and care into any aspect of construction. I want to bring out the unique characteristics in every project, which is why I have always been drawn to wood as a sustainable building material.

As a young adult, Marcus found himself working at an injection molding plant in Bolton, Ontario, assembling robots. It was only then that he realized that his true passion was in working with wood. Leaving his job in Bolton, Marcus took a job as a carpenter. Over the years, his hobby and passion for woodworking has grown into a successful business.

“It’s great when you get to go to work and love what you do. Carpentry is my passion, and there is nothing else I’d rather be doing.”

Why Salvaged Wood?

We feel strongly about giving salvaged wood a second or third life when we have the opportunity to do so. With so much history and character behind salvaged wood, we would much rather provide it with a continuous and evolving life rather than scrapping or burning such an interesting piece of history.
